Goa Sailing 13-16 Dec 2009

Sailing expedition was organised by YHAI Goa branch for the first time for 20 participants comming from Mumbai, Hydrabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad and all over. The expedition was lead by Mr Ashwin Tombat who is been in sailing for over a decade and is editor of leading Goan daily newspaper Oherald. A day before start of sailing was organised an introduction meet about sailing.
The sailboats used were of class Seabird, model 1920. The boat shell are of fibre glass and is 20' long. Each boat can accomodate about 6 person. YHAI could arrange 5 sailboats. The Captain for each boat were Mr Ashwin, Mr Jaydev, Mr Nagesh, Mr Leeladhar & Mr Hari. It could be understood that arranging sailboats was tedious task and these personal boats were borrowed from various sail lovers in the peak season time.
Day 1, Four Sailboats were flagged off from Miramar beach near Panjim by leading industrialist & sports lover from Goa Mr Rodregues. All participants carried international class inflatable life jackets. These life jackets are specially designed, that person wearing them will always face upward towards sky and be floating on water. This protects from drowning as well as intake of sea water from mouth or nose. The destination of sailboats was 85 nautical miles down south Goa at Butterfly Beach. Scheduled time for arrival was 4:00 PM.
